Matúš was born in 1996 in Slovakia and spent his childhood in a small town named Tlmače. While attending high school Gymnázium sv. Vavrinca Nedožerského in Levice, he deepened his interest in science, in particular chemistry, and started competing in the Chemistry Olympiad and taking part in summer chemistry camps. This led him to start his bachelor’s studies as a chemistry major at Masaryk University in Brno. During his bachelor studies, he had a chance to perform research on organofluorine reagents in the company CF Plus Chemicals under the guidance of Dr. Václav Matoušek. For his master’s studies, he started to work in the field of supramolecular chemistry on bambusuril anion receptors with Prof. Vladimír Šindelář at Masaryk University. He further continued to work on bambusurils during his Ph.D. studies after winning the FNRS Aspirant fellowship, as a joint Ph.D. under the supervision of Prof. Vladimír Šindelář and Dr. Hennie Valkenier at Masaryk University and Université Libré de Bruxelles, respectively. After successfully obtaining his Ph.D. degrees in May 2025, he continued as a postdoc for a few months at the EMNS lab, and then started to work in the Fiala Lab in November 2025. Apart from science, Matúš was competing in dance sport during his high-school years, and enjoys listening to metal and Czech punk music.
